November 2, 2009

This was an exiting day. We actually got to look at houses! Yeah!!! We got up in the morning early to meet an agent, Michelle was her name, at 9:30 at her office about 30 miles away from where we parked. She printed out about 20 houses she wanted to show us but we ended up with 4 we were interested in. House one was okay, 1 hour later house 2 was a bust. Then we drove through Oldenburg and people, I was in haven. This was a German town if I ever saw one. All the street names were in German with the small print English translation under it. There were German coffee houses , bakeries and Kindergartens. But it was not like in Solvang made for the tourists, but truly just a town inhabited by German and yes, Swiss people. As Michelle told us they have also the 2nd largest German Festival in the Nation called the "Freuden Fest" (Joy Festival). Ahhhhhh the houses and the churches and all! Just dreamlike.
Anyway, couldn't find anything we liked or could afford there so we followed Michelle to look at a property in Swiss county. Now she is a local but we got lost (actually she got lost and we followed) and 2 hours later on a stretch which should have taken half an hour, we found the place. But I tell you it is not easy to find an address which sounds like 4532 S 300 Cr 675 W!!! Where do you go with an address like that, west, south or Cr 300 or whatever? Well we had an appointment 10 minutes after we where done with this house (David loooooooooooved the pond, I looooooooooved the kitchen) and had no clue where to go. Michelle left and lo and behold the other property was on the same street just passed an Amish Farm a quarter mile up the road.
Now here was David's dream! 27 acres pure farm land with a huge pond and huge barn. I just could see David moving in. Well the land was great but the house was poop! A kitchen half the size what I have now and a huge worthless dark basement! No thanks! So on we went. Now friends, thanks god the next address we had to go to was on Popcorn Ridge Rd which the GPS easily enough could recognize. But you know how smart a GPS is, it finds the shortest possible way which was in this case on some country roads we would call a dirt driveway. Through the forest, over the mountain to the valley we drove and drove through Switzerland county until we arrived at this Amish house on Popcorn Ridge Rd. Beautiful, beautiful house, gorgeous land but a narrow very long lot totalling 12 acres. Though the people were Amish there was a nice 3 car garage with cars and boats. The son mowed the lawn on a riding mower but the women opening the door was this sweet Amish dressed short chubby women. She invited us in and the smell of baking bread was just so very welcoming. She showed us around this sunny lovingly cared for fully electric house with all the appliances one can think of. Then she excused herself and went to the kitchen to retrieve two golden absolutely heavenly smelling loafs of bread. We looked some more around and when we said our goodbyes the husband handed us a Ziploc bag with one of the loafs of bread in it. How so very kind. I must say, I have seldom found so many just incredible nice people like in Indiana. As we pulled out we found that we where just minutes from a big highway (what was that GPS thinking on the way here) which brought us back to our RV park in no time, no GPS needed!!!!It was around 8pm when we came home so no blog writing on that night.
