Okay, I had enough whining and begging for more. Here I thought that nobody is reading this stuff and then I find out that some of you are on withdrawal. God, don't you have anything more important to do then reading about our mishaps and silly adventures. Well maybe they are refreshing since most of you are so educated and sophisticated and are living in big busy cities!!!! And here we are in some small town of America and are surrounded by the most caring kind people I have ever met .... okay except the lady at the post office and the gal at the DMV.
When we ran Torrey I did a lot of mailing and printing labels with the United Postal Service over the net and the carrier would just pick it up. Well I tried to mail my tax stuff to our accountant and wanted to just drop the prepaid priority envelope off at the counter when the clerk stopped me and started to finger my envelope with wrinkled forehead. Now folks it was a flat rate envelope which means you just pay a flat rate and stuff in all you want. Well she started to weigh it, then punched a few keys on her computer, weigh it again, then told me to wait while she was checking with the supervisor and after about 5 min came back with a pissed off look and told me that it was okay!!! Gosh I am sure she was disappointed that she couldn't find anything wrong with it and sock it to this city slicker.
A few weeks later I was sending Michelle her new credit card per express flat rate international and also prepaid to boot. While walking into the post office I was feverishly praying that there would be another clerk. Yeah, I was lucky and there was this pleasant looking young girl. I was second in line and as the person in front of me was walking up to that nice girl my evil postmaster came out to serve the next person in line which happened to be me. This time all I needed was a plastic pouch because again I printed everything off the computer but was out of the pouches one sticks onto the front to put the custom declaration papers in. I kindly asked her if I could have a plastic pouch while shaking in my boots. And the dang woman starts again to read every line of the declaration, asks me in which county this Aix en Provance (the town in France where Michelle lives) is and of course I don't know and it is not important because there is no line on the address label which is asking for it. Oh man, that opened a can of worms and she again started to stab those poor keys on her computer and ended up making me wait 10 minutes while she was conferring with her supervisor again. And again she declared that everything was okay looking like she was about to murder me. Friends, don't ask me to ever mail something I can't just throw into the mail box or otherwise I will be forced to drive to the next town. Because I fear that there would be another story in the news about a post office rampage either this clerk or me going nuts.
Oh and then the joy of registering a car. Here you have to take the car first to the DMV and they do a visual inspection of the car which real doesn't say anything about how safe your car is. Then you take those papers to the court house where you have to turn in your pink slip (California Title to your car) and then you get the new Ohio title for your car. With the new title you go back to the DMV and there you pay for the registration and get your license plates.
Now David took my Xterra a few weeks back to the DMV and then went to the court house to get the new title. We didn't have the California title because we bought the car late last year and somehow it got lost in the mail. So David took all the sales contracts and proof of payments to the courthouse hoping to sweet talk them into getting us a title without surrendering the old one. Well no luck! So I filled out a bunch of forms on the net on the California DMV page and mailed in. That was over 6 weeks ago. Meanwhile my California registration expired and I worried that I would get stopped by the cops. So I called the California DMV to inquire where my title was told that they were processing right now February 26 (this was on April 24) and it would take another month till they would reach March 1st when I sent my letter but I could for an extra fee put a rush on it which at this point I had to do. So after receiving my pink slip David went to the court house to get the Ohio title. Well no sirree it said that the owners of the car are David OR Maya Jebb. We put on all our papers David OR Maya Jebb so either of us can handle legal stuff but oh no, not in Ohio. David had to drive all the way back home to get me and then we went back to the court house. The friendly lady chatted amiable with us after confirming that we BOTH were the persons we said we were. She handed us the new Ohio title while David had a hard time containing his grumpiness since he had to come home and get me. So on we went back to the DMV to pick up the license plates. But would you know David had already taken the test and got a Ohio drivers license while I still have the California one not having had the time or nerve to take the test. The girl at the DMV looked at Davids license and then asked for mine and then with a cold look was telling us that she cannot accept my license as proof that I am who I am. People, there is a photo on it and except maybe a few more wrinkles I look pretty much like that pictures. But no folks she now also wants my social security card. Well I don't carry that one around and she insists that she will not give us the license until she sees my SS card. Yeah you guessed right, we drove home again and I picked up my darn card and returned without David (he was about to loose it) again to the DMV were the frigging girl after very carefully studying my Social Security Card final handed me over the license. My god, what an ordeal!!!
But truly, those two ladies are the only ones who haven't shown this incredible friendliness we encounter otherwise at every place we go.
So much for today. I have so much to catch up that I will write daily over the next few days with plenty of pictures. Thanks for reading my blog.
David got a call about 2 weeks ago from an old paragliding pilot who was taught to fly by David. He was at that time in the mid 70s and even he moved to Palm Springs staid in touch with us. Well he told David that he was very ill and on life support and that they would pull the plug the next day and let him die. He just wanted to say good bye and wanted to let us know that he was reading my blog daily. Friends, it made me so sad that I didn't keep the blog up just for him but It made me happy that it hopefully gave him a few chuckles. So I hope that this blog might show you just a few simple thing we just walk by without noticing. I have found that I pay more attention to the little daily events just to jot them down for you and me. Love you all! Enjoy the pics!
