3/5/2010/ Does anybody read this?

Finally kicked myself to write another post. I do have a lot to tell, just not sure if I should just call you all since I am sure that I do talk to myself here and nobody is reading this anymore.
Well for you who are still reading here are some news bits.
Finished painting all the rooms .Very colorful, I must say so myself.
Then David has only one more room to lay floors. I can't believe he did close to 2400 square feet of wood floors. poor guy he is exhausted.
We also got us a new KING SIZE (yeah!) bed, a sideboard for the dining room and a TV stand. All compliment of IKEA except the TV stand. Oh I love that store. I have to drive though 2 1/2 hours to Detroit but yeah, it is worth it.
Talking about driving to Detroit. David flew out of Detroit to attend Gabriel's grand opening of the prototype of his trash eating machine!!! So brought David up to Detroit and 5 days later had to pick him up. Well I tell you we didn't really had a snowy winter this year, cold yes but not much snow. David was to arrive at 8pm last Friday and I wanted to go to IKEA to buy a dresser for our bedroom. So left at 2pm thinking after a 2 1/2 hour drive I would still have plenty of time to go to the store which was only 7 miles from the airport.
About an hour before I was leaving it started to snow, those beautiful big snow flakes the size of handkerchiefs! Then it started to blow and within minutes the whole thing developed into the first snow blizzard I have encountered since I left Switzerland. I barely made it out of our driveway knowing that I had about 180 miles to go before 8pm. Took me 1 1/2 hour to Toledo to hit the freeway and another 2 hours to Detroit. Went to IKEA with Trina in tow and hauled a bunch of furniture around by myself and Trina on the leash.
Then loaded the stuff in the truck and scraped off the ice that settled as fast back on the windshield as I tried to remove it. Then with defroster on extra, extra high went to the airport driving 5 m/h! But would you believe it I was only half an hour late and David's plane was just about to land. By then I was exhausted from all that blizzard driving.
Had no clue at this airport where to park or where to pick up David, so just hit a park house and started walking. Would you know I was parked at the exact right place to pick David up. Had to ask one of those guys who hold up signs to pick up people where the exit is from the gates. In exchange I had to listen to him telling me all about how smart animals are after finding out that Trina is a service dog. Then he went on to tell me about his parakeet he taught to speak and all the words he knew and the funny things he said. Friends,I was about to loose it after that long drive and hauling furniture at IKEA. And the darn man just raddled on being so dang friendly I wanted to scream. Thanks God David finally appeared and I could escape that darn Midwestern friendliness and feel grumpy!
Needless to say David drove the whole way back with a speedy 15-20 m/h and we arrived totally exhausted around 2am at our house having driven the last 30 miles braille, meaning we guessed where the freeway lane was and the rattling of the shoulder letting us know we missed! So much for a real snow blizzard. Of course the next morning greeted us with beautiful sunshine reflecting on blinding white fresh snow. The beauty of it made us instantly forget the misery of the previous night!

  1. I read this blog!!! But if you don't write in it more frequently then people will stop checking it... because I checked it after your last blog entry a lot but then there was never nothing new on it and so I nearly forgot to keep checking it!

Anyway, this was a lovely entry. I didn't realize that you went to IKEA all alone with the dog and schlepped everything around yourself. I thought dad was there too! Phew! What a mess! IKEA is like 15-20 minutes from us here in Aix - YAY! It also is the only place where I have seen fat French people... Thank goodness. Because all the people in Aix are well put together super models (practically)... and at IKEA there was plenty of hanging bellies, sloppy hair and elastic pants. I'm beginning to wonder if IKEA is the french Walmart or something.

Anyway, your entry today was lovely and I really liked the closure. Bravo!
