Phew, that was a rough night the night before last and a WINDY day yesterday. I hardly ever watched the weather news in San Diego because honest, what is new there. The only time I would be watching was when we had Santa Ana condition just to know when it would brake so we could fly again at the Gliderport.
But now I check the weather news every morning and if possible again in the evening because here the weather can change by the minute. it can be sunny and 70 degree and 10 minutes later we have a thunder shower and the temp drops 20 degree.
So anyway was a hot, hot day (72 degree and 110% humidity) and thundershowers were alternating with beautiful sunshine every 30 minutes. I was watching the news while cooking dinner and here we get this emergency interrupt that there is a tornado warning for 5 counties including ours, especially the south of Defiance were we are living smack in the middle. Now the tornado watch center was on and it was something like ....The weather computer has detected tornado conditions with rotation. If you live in Defiance county, particular at the south bordering Puttnam county seek immediate shelter, move to your basement, a center hallway or small room like a bathroom or closet!!!!...., then they showed the map with green on the edges of the storm going to yellow, orange, red with the center of the storm purple and right over our house (or so it seemed). Well heck, I didn't knew what to do. David went outside to look for funnel clouds and I sat dumbfounded trying to decide what to do. We have no basement so should I grab the kitties and Trina and hide in the closet? No, not really. The wind outside was blowing crazy and the TV kept on blaring it's warning and as I still tried to make up my mind what to do it showed in real time that the storm had past and the tornado warning moved on to Bowling Green. Well that thing moved 60mi/hr so you usual have only about 30 min to do (or not to do) something.
There was no tornado touch down anywhere but the up to 65 mi/hr wind uprooted a few trees in Toledo and I guess Michigan got some heavy tennis ball size hail. The funny thing was that our electric goes out about once a week for no good reason, even on a nice sunny mild day and now during this storm the electric staid on, our Satellite dish staid putt and I had to suffer through 2 hours of Tornado coverage way into the evening overriding my ever so anticipated "Wife swap" show! Dang!
Yesterday we woke up to a very, very windy 40 degree morning. It was to be the 2nd annual Lilac Festival, the biggest event in Defiance next to 4th of July. The wind was still blowing 20-30mi/hr and it was CHILLY! We finally around noon headed to town to see what was going on. Well not much! There was a tent with about 10 vendors and along the main street where about another 10 vendors braving the wintry weather. It was really sad because the whole town was all edgy to celebrate spring and then this blasted storm. But the few people who were out had a good time.
We then went on an insider tip of my new hairstylist to a dumpy looking Italian restaurant who was packed inside and served the most delicious food! Yummy.
