1/6/2010/ Grumpy day!
Don't even ask! Exhaustion finally hit the 3 of us and we were on each others throat all day. Pickering was the theme of the day! We made it through Arizona and spent the night in Deming in New Mexico. So boring, nothing but high desert and brown, brown, brown. But the weather was sunny and icy cold. Easy, boring, grumpy drive!
1/5/2010 / On the road again!
I am back!!! You are right, I have more to share. As you can see I changed the title since this is more appropriate at this moment. It is pretty much the reaction we hear when we chat with the gas station attendant, the server at the restaurant or anybody who wants to know why we have California licence plates on our cars, a surf board on the roof of the truck or pulling a trailer with a Kayak in the middle of an "Arctic blast"! The middle east of the country got hit with this major storm and temperatures are in the single digits (around -10 to -20 Celsius) and hier we come like dumb California gringos!
But let me start from the beginning!
We got up early this morning from our mattresses on the floor and were ready to load the 28 foot, 8 foot wide and 9 foot high trailer the moving truck parked in our front the day before. I felt exhausted just looking at the piles of boxes, furniture and STUFF piled in our house, the garage, the back yard and the drive way. Gosh, this stuff will never fit in this huge trailer. To much, to much...! Then there were only David, Michelle and I and hopefully Greg, David's brother and Dan our friend who actually talked us into looking in Ohio for a house since he is from there. Well at 8:30 am just as promised they arrived and the day started to look up a bit. Greg and David just started to build a wall of boxes in the trailer when 2 more cars pulled up and spilled out Stack, Dave, Jeremy, George and Robin, friends from the Gliderport. I couldn't help but tear up a bit about having friends like that. Wonderful.
So the packing and loading began and I tell you those guys didn't stop. Sweat soaked (it was a sunny 72 outside) they worked like robots, not a rest except a few minutes to wolf down a few slices of Pizza and about at 2pm we were pretty much loaded up with some little holes to fill which Robin attacked with endless stuffing. There was not an inch left to be filled by the time our house and garage were empty and the driveway clean. We had to slowly lower the rolling door on the truck while pushing in stuff who wanted to spill out.
After the exhausted guys left Greg stayed behind and helped David load up his truck while Michelle loaded up my car and I cleaned house. The trailer got picked up around 4pm and was on his way to Ohio! Poor Greg was still hanging with us till about 4:30 loading and advising!
Finally at 7pm we closed the door to our house for the very last time! A sad moment but also a relive to put an end to this chapter. We were exhausted but ready to drive for a couple of hours to put San Diego behind so we wouldn't have to start the drive in San Diego rush hour the next day. Our car and David's truck are stuffed to the ceiling, me riding with Michelle in my car while Trina was with David in his truck wedged between stuff. Off we went on our new adventure. Drove to Yuma at the California/ Arizona border!
OHIO HERE WE COME!
